Track (of the week) Tuesdays

I really need to start posting more often... I've been so busy I didn't even know Foster the People's new single was out! So this Tuesday's song is Coming of Age by Foster the People.
I think the band's new album, which is being released in March, is definitely going to be worth listening to. The new song made me realize that the band has grown but still kept their style from the album "Torches". Can't wait for the album, I just hope it's as good as the song!

[new] Disclosure's music video for "Grab Her"

As always, Disclosure's new music video is definitely worth watching. Directed by Emile Sornin, the video shows a workplace where gravity isn't working normally, very funny and very weird...

Track (of the week) Tuesdays

I recently discovered a band named Everything Everything when I was bored and went through a Wikipedia list of 2013 albums, read the genre description and wrote down bands I thought I'd like.

The track of the week is Cough Cough by Everything Everything because I think it's not the usual rock stuff (whatever genre you want to call them), it's catchy, plus I love the video.

Enjoy!

Update Post

Sorry I haven't been posting anything, school has been crazy and also I'm working a lot.

Today I bought a plane ticket to Copenhagen this summer with my friend Maria. The plan is to go to Roskilde Festival, at least we are going to be in Denmark during that time, but hopefully we're going to the festival.
We fly out on 28th June, Saturday morning, and the camping area at Roskilde doesn't open until at 6 pm the 29th. So we have almost all Saturday and Sunday to do something in Copenhagen or wherever. The festival itself doesn't start until Wednesday, but that only means a lot of partying before that!
Roskilde Festival has announced 16 artists yet out of 160, so there's a lot more to be excited about.

The line-up so far:
Arctic Monkeys, Major Lazer, Trentemøller, Bombus, Carcass, Cyril Hahn, Deerhunter, Dilated Peoples, Haim, Hymns From Nineveh, Jenny Wilson, Mark Ernestus presents Jeri-Jeri, , Nails, Pusha T and Systema Solar.

So I'm super excited and hopefully we'll be able to actually go to the festival.

Also, Sónar Reykjavík is only a month away!

Track (of the week) Tuesdays

So, school started on Tuesday and I've been pretty busy with getting my sleep schedule back to normal and, well, school stuff.

I know it's Thursday but here's a song that has been stuck on my brain for days...

I just recently started listening to Toro Y Moi so there's not much that I can say about them except that this song is great.

I'll try to post something next week-end!

Music from the '50s! (Part One)

As I told you before, I got a book called 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die from my friend.

I started listening to the first albums of the book, and they're all from the fifties. I find it a bit weird to listen to music from so many years ago, because of course, music has changed, but it really surprised me how much I liked it!

The first album of the book is In the Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra. Sinatra released the album in 1955 not long after his relationship with Ava Gardner collapsed. The album is considered to probably be one of the greatest break-up album of all time.

I liked the album a lot, it kind of made me want to be alive in that time just to have a crush on him.

Favourite song: Mood Indigo

Next album is the first record from the king of rock and roll himself, Elvis Presley, with his self-titled album. Released in 1956, when he was only 21 years old.

The whole album wasn't recorded at the same time. Seven tracks were cut in early 1956, while the other five tracks were virtual leftovers from Sam Phillips' Sun Records in 1954 and 1955. You can hear a difference in the recording in some of the tracks.

Favourite song: Blue Suede Shoes, I Got a Woman, Tutti Frutti, this is hard, I loved the whole album.

The third album is Tragic Songs Of Life by The Louvin Brothers. I think I listened to about three songs when I switched to the next album. They sing country music, and to me, all the songs sound the same. I am so sorry Charlie and Ira Louvin... I just don't really like country music.

Moving on to the fourth album, The Wildest! by Louis Prima. Louis Prima was a popular nightclub singer/trumpeter in the '30s and '40s. In 1954 he got together with his wife and stage partner, Keely Smith, along with Sam Butera, a young New Orleans saxaphonist. Together they became the most popular act in the city of Las Vegas.

The album is considered an innovative mixture of early rock and roll, jump blues and jazz. I really love the saxophone and piano together, those three made a great team.

Favourite song: Didn't really have a favourite, but probably Just a Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody. Also Body and Soul is great!

Antoine "Fats" Domino with the album This Is Fats is (mambo) no. five! I find it so funny that he actually called himself "Fats" because he actually is/was quite fat, but whatever. Fats was arguably the man most responsible for bridging the gap between R&B and rock. He released This Is Fats in 1956 at the height of his career.

This album is a master-piece. Wow. I just got more and more surprised throughout the album of how good it is. I absolutely loved every bit of it.

Favourite songs: Oh god. Honey Chile and Blue Monday.

That's it for now, I still have 996 albums to listen to. Good luck, me!

Foster The People are back!

Foster the People posted a video on their site, a teaser for what's coming up in 2014.
The band has only released one album, Torches, in 2011. I really loved that album but I kind of lost interest after a while because nothing new was going on with the band. Mark Foster, the singer, has stated that a new album will be coming in early 2014, as long with a new single sometime in January.
I'm really excited to see what the band has became and I can't wait to hear the new album.

I sure believe that this will be a great music year, bring it on 2014!

Track (of the week) Tuesdays

Alright! So it's the last Tuesday of the year and I really wanted to do like a weekly track of the week thing, why not do it on Tuesdays and start now?

The song I wanted to post today is by Hermigervill, an Icelandic artists. I actually saw him yesterday along with Sísí Ey and Retro Stefson (one of my favourite bands).
This song is new and I was actually at Harlem (a club in Reykjavík) when he first performed the song on stage, it was awesome.

Happy new year!
